Ok. I wasn' going to this one, because I am a huge Blur fan and, following the announcement of their new album coming out next month, they are headlining the show on the Saturday, two days after Beck, and I'm going to that one. Two shows was going to be too expensive, especially with Beck supporting, which means a much shorter set. BUT! It seems they are struggling to sell tickets and came up with a special "combined ticket offer": £99 for two shows. So I grabbed the chance, cancelled the original booking and bought a joined ticket for both Thursday and Saturday. So with an extra £30 I'm seeing both Blur and BECK! :D

Yay for you :) I just told my friend, and she says she cannot cancel :|

Oh I hope the rumour about the show in my city is confirmed/denied soon so I can start thinking about the options...

Has she bought through AXS? If not she may have difficulties cancelling. If she booked through ASX, tell her to call this number and do it all over the phone - 08448 24 48 24 For Sales and General Inquires or 020 3784 7998 For Customer Services.

She won't be returning the tix after all. She is only interested in priority entry tickets.

Weird. Is Beck only doing 3 shows in Europe in June? It's this even profitable?

The theatre festival in my city for which Beck was rumored to play still hasn't announced who's playing. It's in two months and last year they had Damon Albarn confirmed as early as in March. When asked, they say an announcement is coming very soon, but they've been repeating it for some time now.

Is it possible that the above and Beck's silence in adding new dates are connected?

Well, I'll be there tomorrow night. Looking at the schedule, he'll only be on for an hour, which was to be expected. Even as headliner for Festival No 6 last year he only got 80 minutes. I really really hope he will come over again soon for a proper tour and some full shows, rather than do all these Festival slots.

Still, it'll be good to see him again and I'm going to enjoy every minute of it :)

The crowd wasn't amazing, but they never are (in my experience) for support slots at these BST shows. Everyone tends to want to go for the headliner - though the Strokes were a bore and I left halfway through (I've never been into them, though - a real fan might say otherwise).

I didn't think Beck looked sad so much as maybe the band's energy level dipped a bit after coming out a bit pumped. They seemed to start on a bit more of a high than they ended on - maybe it was the crowd, or maybe it was tiredness from having flown over from Dublin that morning.

The crowd was a bit shitty, to be honest, especially at the front where I was. Lots of kids that were there for the Strokes and kept texting and talking through Beck's set. Beck made a comment about it when introducing Hell Yes "All those looking down at their cellphones say hell yes." Some people didn't even get up. But others got into it, even if they probably didn't really know much about Beck. I think by the end, most had been won over, but yes, the atmosphere wasn't great and the band did look a bit deflated. Beck gave it his all, though, the true pro that he is. He was fantastic.

We left the front pit after Beck and grabbed some food and a drink while everyone headed for the stage and there were no queues at bars and food stalls. We sat at one of the picnic tables at the back and watched the first half an hour of The Strokes on the big screen, but we too decided to beat the crowds and leave early.

Couple of photos I took.

Quite a few reviewers have Beck down as the highilight of the night:

"a brilliant set worthy of a headliner, albeit far too short for an alt-rock icon of his stature... Come back soon please Beck, and play all night." ~ Gigwise

"Earlier in the afternoon, Beck is the perfect antidote to the nonchalance of The Strokes... he finds time to wrap barricade tape around the stage, though the only crime tonight is Beck leaving the stage all too early..." ~ Virtualfestivals

"You have to admire the cojones of the man who booked Beck to support the Strokes, at the first of 2015’s British Summer Time Hyde Park shows. Surely such a showman, who can throw Michael Jackson disco-spins through rump-shakers like Sexx Laws, will expose the New York indie legends’ notorious shortcomings? As E Pro collapses into squealing chaos, and Beck stretches police tape across the stage, it certainly feels like a challenge to the headliners: follow *that*." ~ The Guardian

"The Strokes deliver but Beck gives a stand-out set... Ruthlessly shrinking 20 years of his musical meddling into an hour, the genre-ravager crafted a flawless set that could easily have been a headline performance... quite frankly it's a mystery why Beck isn't heading up more festivals." ~ Digital Spy

"[The Strokes] have been upstaged by a diminutive man in a large hat." ~ The Times

Yes, my friend agrees Beck himself and the band were incredible. He's impressed how great the show was, being just one hour long. But because of the poor audience reactions he feels somewhat underwhelmed.

First iTunes festival, now this. What a shame Beck choses those above playing for people who would actually want to see his full set.

Warby Parkers are surprisingly crappy glasses. Don't drink the Kool-aid.
