[Candy with Strangers]

Pretty interesting. I think Charlotte and Beck must have answered the questions separately, in writing. I love how much ground Beck covers in some of his answers--for instance, the ones about L.A. in the '20s and Hieronymus Bosch.

Charlotte was kind of annoying in that she kept referencing her parents  ( and when she said the best duet was her and her dad on lemon incest....) I don't know...

I thought it was funny how they both said their kids for what they love most in their life. lol

it does look like they asked them separately.

Yeah. Her answers look kind of self-centered next to Beck's.

I find it kind of funny how Beck and Charlotte seem to interpret the question to "describe your relationship" completely different. She talks about her husband Yval Attal, he talks about Charlotte. 

Hey Beck, if you're interested in L.A. in the roaring 20s you should check out this website. They have tons of ancient pictures. I really dig Paul de Longpre's residence.

Beck's gotten to be really great at interviews in recent years, I feel like I'm getting a very insightful mini-lecture on culture whenever he answers a question. Quite a sharp contrast to Charlotte, with her French/familial centricity and brevity.

P.S - I can't believe Beck doesn't appreciate that Doolittle > Surfer Rosa.

Beck has such great answers. I have a bunch of wikipedia pages open now to see what the heck he's talking about! so far more cultured than me!

I kept reading the answers and thinking that this interview was some sort of marriage therapy that the two of them were going through. I had to keep reminding myself that they are just professional partners.

The last question seals it for me. Not that I'm trying to make some warped Beck fan fiction or anything.

I like that era of L.A., too--and on into the '30s. So I was glad to see Beck show some appreciation for it. But he also made another dig against stucco! I wonder if he hates all the old stucco? It's been such a major architectural feature of L.A. from early on. Maybe he just has a problem with the way stucco has been used in recent years to cover up all kinds of older facades in L.A.? I would be with him on that....

He also mentioned the Talking Heads' Remain in Light.

When there was a rumor he might cover TH on Record Club I was surprised since I had never heard Beck say anything about TH. As far as I know this the first confirmation that indeed he's a fan and a cover wouldn't be unlikely. But then again, it's not like I've read every Beck interview out there, so he might have mentioned TH in the past...

Eye concur, this is a really great interview--and Beck's responses continue to intrigue. I don't recall him referring to Talking Heads before either, but Remain in Light is definitely an exceptional work. Need to check out some of the others he mentioned.

probably the back pain (i think that was what kept his dancing down).  they would have been looking for a slipped disk, compressed nerve, etc.
