I enjoyed this one. The sample was a little off at the beginning- juxtaposed with beck's introspective facial expression. But I was really into it otherwise.
Love the experimental vibes certainly.

is Yanni still alive? I wonder what he thinks of this?

lol

Yanni's still alive

his twitter person retweeted my claim that the Record Club was bad-ass, though he ignored when I asked directly what he thought of it

Holy serious atmospherics! Love the way the video was shot and edited to match the intensity of the track.

Also love Beck's look of joy in the midst of chaos at about 3:25. :D

  • The thing is, we've taken away all the things that can't possibly have happened, so I suppose the only thing that's left, even though it seems really weird, must be the thing that did happen in fact!

I hear very little connection between Record Club "The Rain Must Fall" and Yanni's

but I daresay listening to the songs back to back makes me dig Yanni more.. not like OH MY GOD THIS IS AWESOME, but appreciating the atmosphere and sounds.... his original "Rain Must Fall' has a mad bass solo in the middle

anyway here's Thurston's lyrics as best I could tell... I love his words, and like that he did this for a couple tracks... I wonder if Beck improvised on any of the ones coming up?

Battered soul like a jellyroll
Rip off your mustache and save your soul
Chances are you will rise above
Look out, babe, it's a turtledove
Here we go around the poison bush
Look out, baby, I'm ready to push
Going down to the river with the clown
Streak across the yard so naked
Look at that man with the fake tan
He's the one from Afghanistan
Can you spare one more smoke?
Oh my God, it's a magic toke
Here we go around the poison bush
Look at that jerk, look at him go smush
Meow meow meow meow

yes. much preferring the improv singing tracks to the instrumentals. the instrumental jams have very little keeping them together. i guess, these singing tracks have very little as well, what with everynoe just going off on their own tangents, but tis asif the vocals turn the chaotic mess into something slightly more song related? i danno, but i dont totally hate this track and the first track:)

this is the best yet from RC5! Beck's voice is so awesome, and to me it's their most successful mix of noise to funk so far
