Which direction would you take next if you were Beck?
I would call up Holger Czukay (from Can) (If Holger is semi-retired I'm sure he would work with Beck)
The could create a record together in Holger's home studio.

P.S. I emailed Holger once and he replied. He is personable.

I would merge complex arrangements with fuzzy hip beats. It wouldn't so much be a return to odelay/guero esque type of music, but more so an advancement in exploring technology, and then merging it with a specific, 2010 vibe. It wouldn't be dance, blues, fuzz psych, rap or folk, but some conglomerate and evolving melting pot of those styles. Perhaps genre-less, perhaps sincere but with an covert political bent, perhaps some anxiety is thrown in the lyrics, but also some hope and acceptance. Letting go of some sentimentality, but still keeping forms of sincerity.

I would debate making an album that consisted of one 68 minute long song.  It would be recorded mostly in one take with different musicians showing up throughout the time half improvising songs.  Somewhere in the middle of the song (around the 42 minute mark) a telephone call for a pizza delivery would be recorded.

I would then eventually scrap the idea, come up with a few other side projects, and ultimately stay at home for 14 months before releasing some album I secretly worked on four years ago and forgot about.
