I thought he looked good during the Napa performance. Sounds enthused and wasn't stoic or anything.

yes. I was talking mostly about the modern guilt tour / record club songs.

Taking time off from excessive touring did him good.

I think you all have excellent points.

I do wish there were more rock act out there had the energy and danceable quality of Odelay-MV Era Beck...
I mean, there are few energetic acts out there, but more in a head-bang, jump-up-and-down type of way, not in a slide-and-split type of way.

Just look at West 54 studio performance (or Seacaptain's signature), I don't know of any other artists since maybe Prince, that can pull that kind of shit off.

So it's hard not feel like there is a missing piece in the current musical spectrum.

But either way, I am just happy Beck is touring again! I'll be dancing my ass off no matter what!

Prince is a great example. I saw him at the Great Western Forum last year and he played for something like 57 hours straight and rocked out the whole time. And he used to be a slave. If Prince can still hump the stage, Beck can hump a bed. For fuck's sake.

BUMP

this is on SUNDAY! Ahhhh.

It is always my wish that they will play Thunder Peel. I know that's one that Beck pulls out rarely... but just not any of the times I've seen him yet!

Also hoping for Landslide.

anything will be awesome though, I still can't believe he's coming back to NY! and with JMJ and the rest of the original homies!

Well today is the day Beck returns to NYC!

I went to day one of Gov Ball - great atmosphere, nice ferry ride. The weather is beautiful again today and the lineup is tops!

Should be a great day!

Great show!

Beck and the band looked more in-sync than the last show I was at (Bend, OR). They really clicked tonight ... Vintage form!

It rained a little during the set - but no one seemed to mind.

Setlist was all songs to be expected, no surprises. Although interestingly there was no sampled introductory 'whistle' on Sisseyneck, instead Beck asked the crowd to help out. Which didn't go so well, then Beck kinds sang the melody to kick-start the song. And later during Sissyneck they used the sample about 'getting pizza' etc. you know the one, it is on the cassette advance of Odelay, and also on the Odelay anniversary (I think, correct me if I'm wrong - thanks!).
Notable omission from the set was The New Pollution.

It was a busy day, Fiona Apple was pretty amazing also I have to say.

The amount of lyrics he forgot was disastrous! Great show though, Hotwax was insane!

Here's the setlist: http://www.setlist.f...y-63df12e3.html

Novacane and then Minus was amazing!

The failed Sissyneck whistling was pretty funny. As was the robot dance that JMJ and Beck did during Where It's At. Cosimo kept trying to say hi to Beck every time he went to switch his guitar. :awub:

I had a really great time hang out with CLme and PirateFetus for the day!

Beck and the band sounded excellent! Beck at one point did mention that he was in Atlantic city last night
and hinted at being tired and he also messed up on the lyrics on a couple of songs.
but even still the show had alot of energy in it. JMJ was dancing around most of the time and Beck had some moves too.

Notable Moments

The End of Hotwax Went Like This:
JMJ: Who Are You?
Beck:I'm The Enchanting Wizard of Rhythm.
JMJ: Why Did You Come Here?
Beck: To boast out guitar solos... from the 1980s
(Beck boast out guitar solos from from the 1980s)

During Sissyneck they used the 'barbie sample'

Where It's at went into the 'Sergio Valente' part of High 5

Novacane into Minus was quite epic !

I wrote down the set list:
Black Tambourine
Gamma Ray
Soul of a Man
Hotwax
Girl
Sissyneck
Modern Guilt
Solider Jane
The Golden Age
Lost Cause
Sunday Sun
Jackass
Devil's Haircut
Loser
Novacane
Minus
Where it's at / High 5
E-pro

I was backstage stage right. Jmj was dancing hillariously. Beck did mess up a bumch, I actually saw him arrive and leave in a mini van with his fam. He did look super exhausted. He also kept referencing "able bodied" people so I hope he was doing alright. Cosimo looked like he wanted to jump in and dance but would hesitate. Devils haircut was great Ill share some crappy cell phone
videos soon... if anyone has a video from the front Id love to see that!
