If your avatar was a URL from another web page, you will have to re-do the link.. Only the peoples who actually uploaded there images got to keep them.. It is because the site added gavatar as an option

I'll discuss with JABF what our storage limits are, and we can likely increase, but 100kb is actually quite a bit of space if the photo is re-sized, and optimized for web. I'll post instructions when I get a chance.
EDIT: Actually, I take that back; I am thinking of static .jpg images. I forgot about animated gifs; the above does not apply there.
