the audience is commanded to laugh/clap, as on any live TV taping, so if they're not doing it they're not doing their job. it's not like stand-up. when it's silent its possible they can't hear the joke.
but I do know those pretend laughs, and they are disconcerting.

Actually, I was talking about Jon's pretend laughs. You know: the ones he does 10 times a show, bending on his desk, giggling behind his fist. When you know he rehearsed it several times during the day, I find it so dishonest.

And it happens in EVERY show.

Oh and basically, he's laughing at his own jokes. Wich he didn't write so maybe that's why.

oh sorry! I was talking about when the audience in respect to the times when he pauses in expectation of a laugh. that's not entirely his fault...they're supposed to be laughing.

but I know exactly what you mean about HIS fake laughs, and they get old very fast. I don't make a point of getting to the TV to watch the Daily Show these days.

^ Oh gosh, I just saw that intro. Frankly, I'm torn. On one hand, he read his lines without hesistation or stammering, even did the pen toss and considering the notion at hand it was remarkable not as painful as I braced for.

But then again...... GET THAT LITTLE TWERP OFF MAH DAILY SHOW!! D:

today in my class we had a guest speaker who was on Colbert once, and when he said he had done a lot of interviews he named Stephen first among them. I saw him give a talk a few years ago and the same thing...he was totally mentioning that he'd done an interview with Stephen. I was thinking like "yeah that's right Stephen Colbert is totally awesome you better play up your 15 minutes of interaction with him a few years ago!" :lol:
