I usually don't promote random people, but Gal Musette really impressed me. I saw her open for the Magnetic Fields in St. Louis on Wednesday night and she was incredibly good. She is a 14 year-old singer-songwriter inspired by 69 Love Songs to write 70 love songs. She plays piano and ukulele, writes songs in French (and English) and has amazing song composition. Her voice reminds me of a cross between early Joanna Newsom and Cat Power and Regina Spektor. Her entire set just made me very happy.

I saw that there is a Kesha, LMFAO and Spank Rock tour happening now.  I normally wouldnt promote Kesha, but with that support, the show will likely be insane.  Spank Rock blew my mind opening for Beck in Chicago.

Apparently, the truck stop I drive by everyday (and one of view businesses in my "town" of Midway, Missouri (which doesn't even have its own wikipedia article)) is going to have its own reality TV show on the Travel channel.  I always go to the other gas station because the gas there is too expensive (about a dime/gallon more than anywhere else in town). In fact, after living by that place for 3 years, I have only gone to the actual truck stop twice for milk and Coke and none of the other businesses except for the antique mall.  Although the antique mall there is pretty stellar.  I drove by on the day they were filming those Renaissance folks and wondered why someone was filming that.  I guess I know now.  Now I have to figure out what the 12 businesses are: truck stop, restaurant, bar, tattoo parlor, antique mall, expo center, haunted house, fireworks, motel, boot store....I am missing 2.

Anyway, if you want to see some of my local folks, you can check out the trailer below and I guess it will be on the Travel channel for those of you who have cable.

what should i be listening to? what are the good releases so far this year?  suggestions?
